A newsletter all about medicine's fascinating past

Hello! If you’re familiar with The Quack Doctor website, you’ll know that patent medicines, health advertising and the dodgier fringes of the Victorian medical marketplace have been my passion for over a decade.

That hasn’t changed, but this Substack is the beginning of a new angle for The Quack Doctor. As well as writing about the fraudsters and marketers, I want to explore the wider themes of the history of medicine, and follow the trail of research wherever it may lead. Expect posts about health, disease, crime, macabre happenings, interesting historical figures, book reviews and more.
